OUTDOOR WORKSHOP

Practicing Mindfulness for Sustainability

A Forest Bathing Experience

The real solution to sustainability begins with mindfulness.

In today’s fast-paced and constantly connected world, many of us operate on autopilot, moving from one task to another without pause. Over time, this leads to mental fatigue, reduced clarity, and a growing sense of disconnection.

While nature can thrive without us, we depend on it for everything, from clean air to our mental wellbeing. Yet, our disconnection from both the natural world and our inner selves continues to shape how we think, act, and make decisions, often resulting in stress, imbalance, and unsustainable patterns of living.

Rebuilding this connection through mindfulness allows us to slow down, gain clarity, and respond more consciously. In doing so, we begin to form the foundation for more intentional, balanced, and sustainable ways of living in both our work and daily lives.

Reconnecting Through Mindfulness and Nature

Practicing Mindfulness for Sustainability introduces forest bathing (shinrin-yoku), a Japanese mindfulness practice that encourages deep, sensory engagement with nature.

This is not a hike or a fitness activity. It is a guided, structured experience designed to help you slow down, reconnect, and become more present.

Through guided reflection and nature-based practices, participants will not only experience the benefits of mindfulness, but also explore what sustainability truly means, beyond policies and performance metrics.

You will be gently guided to:

  • Engage your senses and reconnect with the natural environment
  • Step out of constant mental activity and experience stillness
  • Observe your thoughts and emotions with greater awareness
  • Reflect on how your inner state influences your actions and choices

Why Mindfulness Matters in Daily Life

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware, without judgement. In the context of modern working life, where demands are high and attention is constantly divided, mindfulness helps to restore clarity and balance.

By cultivating mindfulness, you may begin to:

  • Improve focus and mental clarity
  • Reduce stress and emotional fatigue
  • Respond more thoughtfully instead of reacting automatically
  • Make more intentional and grounded decisions

These qualities support not only personal wellbeing, but also how we navigate work, relationships, and everyday challenges.

What You May Gain

This experience is designed to be gentle, reflective, and accessible, requiring no prior background in mindfulness or nature-based practices.

Participants often leave the session with:

  • A calmer and clearer state of mind
  • A sense of mental and emotional reset
  • Greater awareness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours
  • A renewed connection with nature and their surroundings

Rather than striving to achieve something, this session invites you to slow down, observe, and simply be present.

What You Will Experience

Through this guided session, you will:

  • Take part in a guided forest bathing walk with nature-based activities
  • Practise guided meditation to cultivate presence and awareness
  • Engage in a small group sharing space for reflection and inspiration
  • Explore how connecting with nature supports your wellbeing

Testimonials

I had the delightful chance to experience forest bathing with Ru Yi, guided by her expertise. Being unfamiliar with the concept, I was curious about how the session would unfold. Those two hours proved to be truly enriching. I savored the serenity of nature and found solace in the meditation and grounding exercises. It was a literal and metaphorical immersion in fresh air, leaving me with a sense of calm, relaxation, and renewed energy. I eagerly look forward to joining the next session.

I had a wonderful time forest bathing with Ru Yi. It reminded me of the healing power of nature and how it can be the perfect antidote to the patterns that weigh down our mental and spiritual health. I would highly recommend partaking in this activity often to develop new patterns that can help redefine how you respond to mental issues. It’s especially beneficial to participate in a group with others and an experienced guide such as Ru Yi.
