ISO 14064-1:2018 – Greenhouse Gases Verification at Organisation Level

What is ISO 14064-1:2018?

ISO 14064-1 is the first chapter of the multi-series on GHGs ISO standards. ISO 14064-1:2018 is a document that specifies principles, and requirements at the organisational level for quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals. It includes requirements for the design, development, management, reporting, and verification of an organization’s GHG inventory.

To ensure that GHG-related information is a true and fair account, it takes into account the application of several principles, including relevance, completeness, consistency, accuracy, and transparency. It also includes the identification of greenhouse gas sources and sinks, the calculation of emissions and removals, mitigation activities, and other various associated factors.

Why is ISO 14064-1:2018 important?

In order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations in the Earth’s atmosphere and make it easier for people to adapt to climate change, the public and private sectors are developing and putting into action international, regional, national, and local initiatives. ISO 14064-1:2018 offers clarity and consistency to support sustainable development through a low-carbon economy, to the benefit of organisations, project proponents, and interested parties globally. The documents will also help organisations to:

  1. Improve corporate image and reputation by demonstrating environmental responsibility.
  2. Increase financial performance through cost savings during the independent verification by our in-house professional engineers, which primarily focuses on inefficiency and improves overall process performance.
  3. Prepare the organisation and top management for future greenhouse gas emission legislative limitations.
  4. Build trust with customers who care about the environmental impact.
