How Moldex Manufacturing Leveraged ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14067 for Growth and Create Competitive Advantage

Malaysian recycled plastic pallets manufacturer Moldex Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. (Moldex), achieved dual ISO verification (14064-1 & 14067), demonstrating environmental leadership and unlocking market expansion opportunities.

Based in Johor, Malaysia, Moldex specialises in recycling post-industrial plastic scraps into high-quality recycled plastic resins. They engaged us to meet the increasing demand for sustainable practices. The company aimed to reduce their carbon footprint and demonstrate environmental stewardship. Starting with ISO 14064-1 (Greenhouse Gas Verification at Organisational Level) certification, they planned to achieve ISO 14067 (Carbon Footprint of Product) to access to wider international markets simultaneously.

Step-by-Step Approach to ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14067

Moldex faced challenges to have established a co-relationship between its products and the environmental impact due to the lack of indicators in its industry. The verification reports of ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14067 shall act as a mean to ascertain that the company’s products meet the standards to the final users. especially in the European market.  As such, the company, which has an ISO Team in place for nearly three decades, sought guidance to understand and align with the ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14067 standards.

To simplify the process, we are engaged to provide:

  • Knowledge transfer on sustainable practices for greenhouse gas emissions management;
  • Consult and guide them for ISO 14064-1 verification; and
  • Building their confidence to achieve ISO 14067 verification to prepare for export and import requirements in countries.

The Solutions and Implementation

Under our guidance, Moldex conducted a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment, analysing the life cycle of their recycled plastic resin. By collecting data on energy consumption, transportation, and waste management, they identified areas for improvement. Armed with insights, Moldex optimised processes, waste reduction strategies, and streamlined logistics to lower carbon emissions.

The Impact of ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14067 on Moldex

After obtaining ISO 14064-1 verification from BSI, Moldex demonstrated a solid commitment to environmental sustainability, gaining a competitive edge in the market and attracting eco-conscious customers and partners.

Leveraging a step-by-step approach and data-driven insights, Moldex stretches its efforts and earned ISO 14067 verification within the next 3 months, opening doors to more international markets.

Besides, process optimisation and carbon footprint management led to emission reductions, further solidifying their sustainability leadership as the first plastic manufacturing company to gain ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14067 verification from BSI in Malaysia. Moreover, this achievement positioned them favourably to address potential challenges related to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and navigate carbon pricing on imports.
